It’s about the music (but not really)
You have to treat every performance, every composition, every note – like it’s your last. Get up on that stage, in that drum booth, behind that selfie ring – and give it everything you’ve got.
But at the same time, you also have to detach yourself from the result. You have to, in a sense, not give a shit.
Being a great producer is about having the wisdom to control what you can – and the courage to let go of the rest.
Ultimately, when being a key creative on a project, you have to embrace this dichotomy and do both.
This paradox of push-and-pull is truly the collaborative and creative process in motion. And when you realize that you can swim in the river, but you sure as hell can’t stop the tide – that’s when the magic happens.
